J. McCall Ayres Shore accountant

Services for J. McCall Ayres, a retired accountant who lived on the Eastern Shore, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Rock Hall United Methodist Church.

Mr. Ayres died Wednesday at the Washington Hospital Center after a blood vessel burst. He was 74.

He moved about 25 years ago from Baltimore to Rock Hall, where he retired about 10 years ago from the Dixon Valve Co. He also had worked for the Robert Linder Co. and then as an agent for Hogan's Realty Co. after moving to Rock Hall.

In Baltimore, he had published a magazine for contractors, the Builder's Weekly Guide. Earlier, he worked at the Baltimore-Washington International Airport plant of the Westinghouse Electric Corp. and for the Commercial Credit Co.

The Rock Hall native, known to his friends as Mac Ayres, had moved to Baltimore in the 1930s.

A chief petty officer and flight navigator in the Navy during World War II, he was a member of the Sgt. Preston Ashley Post of the American Legion in Rock Hall. In his youth, he sang in the choir of the Rock Hall United Methodist Church.

Mr. Ayers is survived by his wife, the former Anna Losch.
