Loyola falls in 4th OT, 98-96


NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. -- Niagara broke a 91-91 tie with fiv straight points in the fourth overtime and went on to defeat Loyola, 98-96, in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game last night at the Niagara Falls Convention Center.

Kevin Green scored 39 points for Loyola (12-12, 5-8), a record since the school went Division I. Mike Morrison had the old mark at 38 points. Brian Clifford scored 26 Niagara (7-17, 5-10).

Niagara sent the game into overtime when Tony Newsom made a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to tie the score, 65-65. Newsome sole the ball from Kevin Anderson just before taking the shot. Loyola had led by as many as 11 points in the second half.

Anderson's two free throws with three seconds left tied the game at 74-74 at the end of the first overtime.

Niagara scored the last three points of the second overtime to tie the game at 80-80. Loyola failed to score in the final two minutes.

Tracy Bergan sent the game into the fourth overtime with a layup that tied the game at 87-87 with 31 seconds left.

In the fourth overtime, Niagara moved from a 91-91 tie to a 96-91 lead with less than a minute. Bergan's two free throws with one second left ended the scoring.
