Former Dunbar star David Wingate is one step closer to resuming his NBA career with yesterday's news that a criminal case against him in Texas has been dropped due to insufficient evidence.
According to a report in today's Sun, an agreement was reached to settle a civil suit filed by a 22-year-old San Antonio woman who claimed Wingate raped her in June 1990.
A Bexar County district attorney "concluded there was not sufficient evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt," The Sun said.
Wingate, 27, a four-year NBA veteran, still faces rape charges in Maryland. His trial is set for Aug. 5.
Wingate's last team, the San Antonio Spurs, have said they won't re-sign him until his legal problems are resolved.
