The Town Council directed Mayor Gerald R. Johnson Jr. Monday to signa public works agreement with the county concerning the constructionof a county library branch in town.

The agreement calls for the county to erect lighting and signage for the new facility, in a revision the town requested after review of the initial agreement.

In other action Monday, the council:

* Received an update on new types of environmental liability insurance services available to local governments.

Larry Bradley, of the Local Government InsuranceTrust (LEGIT), which provides insurance to local governments, addressed the council about recent developments in municipal liability insurance. The council said it would review its current LEGIT policies and consider revisions that include environmental liability insurance.

* Presented proclamations to Boy Scout Troop 460 and Cub Scout Pack 734 for their efforts on behalf the family of the late Susan Hornick, a Mount Airy resident who died of leukemia in December.
