WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Junior Alex Blackwell scored 39 to lead host Monmouth (16-7, 8-4) to its seventh straight triumph, an 87-82 double-overtime victory over Mount St. Mary's (8-14, 6-6) in a Northeast Conference game last night.
Scott Murphy's three-point goal gave the Mount an 80-79 lead with 3 minutes, 42 seconds left in the second overtime, but Andy Partee answered with a three-pointer at 3:17 to give the Hawks the lead for good. Partee and Dave Calloway each hit two free throws in the final 17 seconds to clinch the decision.
Monmouth led all the way until the Mount's Steve Kinney, who was fouled on a three-point shot, made three free throws with six seconds remaining to tie the game at 65. The home team did not get off a shot on the last possession of regulation as Alex Watson knocked the ball loose from Calloway at midcourt.
