The City Council is mulling an annexation request for 33 acres planned for a business center.

On Monday the council introduced a petition from National Instrument Co., which is asking the city to annex the parcel it owns east of Route 97 near the Carroll County Regional Airport.

The annexation petition is accompanied by a request for rezoning, which would allow the company to move forward with plans to develop the Carroll County Commerce Center. The company is requesting the land be rezoned from R-1 (restricted industrial) to P-I (planned industrial).

A public hearing on the annexation and rezoning requests is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, before the city Planning and Zoning Commission.

Plans for the business center include some 233,300 square feet of business space, with about half being warehouse space and about one-quarter being office space.
