ASSISTANT TO HEAD BRUINS GIRLS LACROSSE

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Broadneck athletic director Tim McMullen announced yesterday that Bruins assistant girls lacrosse coach Mary Hart has been elevated to head coach.

Hart, 25, replaces Jackie Love, who resigned to become aguidance counselor at Old Mill High. Love coached the Bruins for four years, losing to Severna Park in the last two state finals.

Ironically, both Hart and her twin sister, Katie, who will continue to serve as an assistant, are 1984 graduates of Severna Park, where they lettered in lacrosse and field hockey. Both graduated from Loyola College in 1988.

"My sister is the assistant, but we're goingto be working like co-head coaches," Mary Hart said yesterday from her Severna Park home.

Having worked as an assistant in the girls lacrosse and field hockey programs the past two years, Hart said familiarity with her players will help ease the transition to head coach.

"The girls at Broadneck know me, and that's a big advantage," she said.

McMullen said feedback from the Bruin athletes was a major factor in the hiring.

"What we found is she's extremely knowledgeable and sincere in her enthusiasm," he said.

Hart said her first goal is to bring a state title to Broadneck.

"We lost a lot of seniors last year, but Broadneck always has good athletes and should be a contender," she said. "With the girls coming back, we should have a good team."
