Police will review autopsy results today in the death of 19-month-old Christopher Morris of Columbia, who died Sunday of bruises and internal injuries after reportedly falling down a stairway at his home.

Police say they are investigating the incident as an unattended death.

County rescue workers went to the home, in the 6400 block of Barchink Place, at about 6 p.m. Sunday after receiving a call of a medical emergency from the boy's father, Carl Morris.

When they arrivedat the home, Christopher was not breathing, said Battalion Chief Donald R. Howell.

The boy apparently suffered numerous injuries to his head and chest, said Howell.

Police say the child's father told them the injuries occurred when Christopher fell down the home's carpeted stairway.

Police would not release the mother's name or say whether she was home at the time Christopher was hurt.

Both Morris and his wife are being questioned and the investigation is continuing, Gardner said.

The child was taken to St. Agnes Hospital at 7:22 p.m. and was later transferred to the Johns Hopkins Hospital pediatric unit, where he was pronounced dead of multiple trauma.

It is unknown what the child was doing just before his reported fall down the stairway, police said.

An autopsy was conducted Tuesday.

The state medical examiner's office was expected to release a full report to police late yesterday or today.
