THEFT: Northern District -- Janet McHugh, of the 4300 block of Roland Spring Drive, reported that while her 1991 Mazda was parked near her home someone removed a tire and rim. Police said the value of the property was not immediately known.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 200 block of W. Lorraine Ave. reported that someone broke into a home she owns in the 2700 block of N. Howard St. and removed a transom window.

THEFT: Northern District -- Phillip Mascia, of the 500 block of W. University Parkway, told police that while his car was parked near his home someone broke into the vehicle and removed property valued at $700.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 1800 block of South Road reported that someone broke into his garage by forcing a door and removed property valued at more than $1,000.

SHOOTING: Northern District -- Roderick Sample, of the 400 block of W. Lorraine Ave., reported that during an incident in the 2700 block of Barclay St. Tuesday evening he was attacked by a man armed with a handgun who shot him in the left leg. Police said Sample was taken to Union Memorial Hospital for treatment. Police said the wound appeared to have been made with a .25-caliber handgun.

THEFT: Northern District -- Ann Dorsey, of the 5900 block of Bellona Ave., reported that someone entered her property and removed $300 worth of furniture from her front yard.

BURGLARY: Northern District -- A resident of the 3600 block of Keswick Road reported that someone broke into her home and removed property valued at more than $400.

ROBBERY: Northern District -- Regina Parlier, of the 3000 block of Reese St., reported she was in the 3100 block of Greenmount Ave. when she was accosted by a man who robbed her of her Ford Maverick. Police said the value of the car, with license plates YHG-380, was not immediately known.

THEFT: Northern District -- Roger Shipley, of the 2800 block of N. Calvert St., reported that while his 1989 Suzuki was parked near his home someone broke into the vehicle and removed a 3/8 -inch drill, a circular saw and other hand and power tools. Police said the value of the property was not immediately known.

THEFT: Western District -- Anna Hedgepeth, of the first block NFulton Ave., reported that someone she knows entered her home and removed two VCRs, a compact disc player and a radio. Police said the property was valued at more than $500 and that a relative of Green's was arrested in connection with the theft. Police said the man was being held at the station pending charges and a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

ASSAULT: Northeastern District -- Grady Wilkes, of the 1800 block of Freedomway, reported to police that during an incident in the 4600 block of Harford Road he was attacked by a woman he knows who struck him with a baseball bat. Police said Dorothy Jones, 48, of the 1900 block of Harford Road, was arrested and charged with aggravated assault. Police said Jones is being held at the Women's Detention Center pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 2000 block of Sinclair Lane reported that someone broke into his home by forcing the front door and removed a TV and a microwave oven. Police said the property was valued at more than $500.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that two multi-speed bikes valued at more than $1,000 were removed from a garage in the 3600 block of Kimble Road after someone forcibly gained entry.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police were seeking the person who gained entry to a home in the 4400 block of Marble Hall Road and stole property valued at nearly $600. Police said a TV and a microwave oven were removed from the house and that entry was gained by forcing a kitchen window.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Mary Meli, of the 6200 block of Burgess Ave., reported she was in the 3200 block of Glenmore Ave. yesterday afternoon when she was approached by two men, one of whom grabbed her purse. They escaped by driving off in a car. Police said the purse contained cash and property valued at nearly $60.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that Ann McMillan, of the 4600 block of Northwood Drive, was in the 4500 block of Loch Raven Blvd. yesterday afternoon when she was stopped by a man armed with a handgun who forced her to give up the purse she was carrying. Police said the gunman escaped with cash and property valued at $70.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Ann Jackson, of the 2100 block of Pentland Drive, reported her car was parked in the 3000 block of Homewood Ave. yesterday when someone broke into the vehicle and removed property valued at more than $300.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 2900 block of Berwick Ave. reported that someone entered his home and removed property valued at nearly $1,000. Police said entry may have been with a key.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Police reported a man attempted to leave Eddie's Supermarket in the 3500 block of Erdman Ave. yesterday without paying for steaks valued at more than $30. Police said the man was allowed to leave the store without the steaks after giving police proper identification. However, store officials were expected to summons the man to court to answer theft charges.

BURGLARY/ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Police investigating the burglary of an apartment in the 5100 block of Goodnow Road arrested two women and a youth. Police said the juvenile was released in the custody of his parents pending action by juvenile authorities. The two women, both 19, were being held at the Women's Detention Center pending charges and a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

ROBBERY TRY: Northeastern District -- Bernadette Healey, of the 3200 block of Kentucky Ave., reported that she was in the 3100 block of Brendan Ave. yesterday when she was accosted by a man who implied he was armed with a handgun and demanded her purse. Police said Healey refused and cried out, causing the man to flee.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police were seeking a man who accosted Mary Flynn, of the 3400 block of Woodstock Ave., as she walked in the 2700 block of Brendan Ave. and robbed her of the purse she was carrying. Police said the purse contained $20.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Police said a security officer at the Ames department store in the 2500 block of Belair Road stopped a man yesterday who attempted to leave the store without paying for household products valued at more than $200. Police said the man was allowed to leave without the items, but that a summons was expected to be issued requiring his appearance in court to answer theft charges.

Baltimore County

ROBBERY: Garrison District -- Police said three men, two of them armed with handguns, entered the Burger King fast-food outlet in the 8000 block of Liberty Road about 8:25 p.m. yesterday. While two of them held their weapons on employees and customers, the third man jumped over the counter and forced the manager to open the cash registers. Police said all three men fled with an undisclosed sum of cash.

ROBBERY: Wilkens District -- Police today were seeking three armed masked men who robbed the McDonald's fast-food outlet in the 5600 block of Baltimore National Pike of an undisclosed sum of cash shortly before 11 o'clock last night. Police said three men, each wearing a ski mask, entered the establishment about 10:45 p.m. and forced the manager to give them money from the cash registers. Before leaving, the men robbed two people of their property. It was not immediately known if the people were customers or employees.

Anne Arundel County

ROBBERY: Freetown -- Reese Elliott Arve, 30, of the 300 block of Buena Vista Ave. in Arnold, reported he was walking on Whitaker Road near Liberty Circle shortly after 2 a.m. today when he was stopped by three men who struck up a conversation with him. Arve told police that during the brief exchange of words, one of the men lunged at him with a knife. Police said a struggle for the weapon ensued, during which a second man ripped a silver necklace from Arve's neck. Police said the three assailants then fled, running toward Freetown Village.

THEFT/ARREST: Annapolis -- Police arrested a 29-year-old man with no fixed address and charged him with stealing a woman's purse as she loaded packages into the trunk of her car on the parking lot of Annapolis Mall. Police said the woman had her back to the man when he grabbed the purse from her shoulder and fled. The woman called out to a security officer who pursued the man and captured him. Police said in addition to charging Jeffrey Lee Weiner with theft, he also was charged with giving false statements to police. Bail information on Weiner was not immediately known.

BURGLARY: Glen Burnie -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 100 block of Olen Ave. by forcing a door and removed appliances valued at more than $1,400.

BURGLARY: Pasadena -- A resident of the 8400 block of Baltimore-Annapolis Blvd. reported that appliances and other property, all valued at more than $4,000, were removed from his home after someone forcibly entered through a side door.

Howard County

ARREST: Columbia -- Police Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old Mount Airy man who reported to an employee of the Woodstock Post Office that he was going to drive to Washington and assist President Bush in the Persian Gulf situation. Fearing that the man would attempt to harm the president, county and State Police picked up the man's trail on southbound U.S. 29. Following a high-speed chase that ended at U.S. 29 and Md. 32, the man was removed from his pickup truck and arrested. Police said the Secret Service interviewed the man before abandoning the case and turning it over to county police, who charged the man with multiple traffic violations. Following traffic charges, Michael Ashwell, of Long Corner Road in Mount Airy, was taken to Howard County General Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

Carroll County

ARREST: Westminster -- City police arrested Brian K. Faulkner, 27, of the first block of Pennsylvania Ave., and charged him with the attempted murder of his neighbor, Ernest L. Reed, 22. Police said Reed was stabbed in the chest during an incident in their apartment building. Police said while Reed was being aided by medics, officers went to Faulkner's apartment and found him holding a 6-inch knife. He was arrested without incident. A search of the apartment turned up a 10-inch knife covered with blood. Police said Reed was flown by Med-Evac helicopter to the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore, where he was listed today in fair and stable condition. Police said Faulkner was charged with common assault and assault with intent to murder and was being held at the Carroll County Detention Center in lieu of $25,000 bail.
