John Charles Edwards, a watercolorist and retired chairman of the art department at Southern High School, died Nov. 18 at Union Memorial Hospital after a heart attack.
Mr. Edwards, who was 82 and lived in the Marylander Apartments, retired almost 20 years ago from Southern. He had earlier taught in Annapolis and in Williamsport, Pa.
A native of Lansford, Pa., he was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, held a master's degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art and also studied privately and at the summer school of the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
His wife, the former Alice Dorothy Villinger, died almost 15 years ago.
He is survived by two sons, George V. Edwards of Baltimore and John Charles Edwards Jr. of Street; a daughter, Sherry A. Edwards of Boone, N.C.; and other relatives in Pennsylvania.
Services were private.
