Have you made a list of resolutions for 1991? Be sure to include involvement in your community organizations and activities.

We have a few neighbors in the Brooklyn Park area who would like to begin a poetry club. The club would meet once a month to write, read and discuss poetry. A place and time will be decided based on the preferences of those interested. If you would like to join, give us a call.

Brooklyn Park/Lindale Middle-Junior: January is test month for secondary school students. Ninth-graders at the school will take their Functional Writing Test Jan. 8-9, the Citizenship Test on Jan. 15. Students must pass both tests before receiving a high school diploma.

Inclement Weather Procedures for Schools: When weather and road conditions affect school openings, an early-morning announcement will be made by the radio stations serving Anne Arundel County. Those stations include WNAV, WWYRE, WBAL, WCAO, WPGC, WFBR, WMAL and WLIF. In the event that schools are closed early due to inclement weather, all after-school activities and school-sponsored evening meetings are canceled.

When the decision is made to close all schools two hours earlier than normal, a special problem arises that affects about one-fourth of all elementary schools -- including those in Brooklyn Park. All morning kindergarten sessions will close at their regular closing times, except for those that regularly close after 11:15 a.m. All kindergarten sessions with regular dismissal after 11:15 a.m. will dismiss at 11:15 a.m. when a two-hour early closing is announced.

The local branch of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees (N.A.R.F.E.) will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Harundale Presbyterian Church.

Doris Roy, from the Maryland State Income Tax Division, will answer questions concerning Income Tax changes for 1990. Anyone interested in joining may attend the meeting; registration fees are $10. For more information, call Ed Thomas at 761-1054.

Also at the library, a Christmas Origami Exhibit continues through Jan.

Have to go to work today? Your children sick? What do you do?

Harbor Hospital Center is offering a Sick-Child Day Care Service as an alternative to missing work when your child is sick. This service is available from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and accepts children from infancy through adolescence. The service is staffed by nursing aides and a child-life specialist who tailors activities to a child's age and sickness.

Prescription drugs will be administered by a registered nurse from the Pediatric Department, as long as the drugs are provided by the parents.

Parents should register their sick child one to two hours ahead of time.

Registration fees are $3 per hour and includes snacks and beverages.

Meals are provided for a nominal fee. For more information, or to register a child, call 347-3243.

We wish everyone a safe and Happy New Year!
