Stop dreaming of a white Christmas. We're not going to get one.
Forecasters from the National Weather Service are calling for cold, sunny skies today with a high of only 35 degrees. The temperature is expected to drop to 22 degrees tonight.
After a stretch of unseasonably warm weather, winterlike temperatures arrived yesterday morning with gusts of frigid air from the west.
The warm weather lingered long enough to set record highs of 64 degrees in Baltimore and 65 degrees at Baltimore-Washington International Airport at 4:55 a.m.
But temperatures plummeted as a cold front swept in from the west. By noon, the temperature had dropped to 37 degrees in Baltimore and 39 degrees at the airport.
The plunge in the thermometer was accompanied by wind gusts of up to 35 mph and gale warnings were posted on the Chesapeake Bay.
The cold, windy weather is expected to stick around until at least the weekend.
