WESTMINSTER - City Council members have not given final approval for Carroll County Cab's fares within city limits since the company has not provided enough financial information to determine whether the charges are fair.
Councilman William F. Haifley suggested Monday night that the current fares -- $1.50 to begin the trip, $1.20 per mile and 30 cents per minute for waiting time -- stand until the next meeting. No further extensions will be granted.
A city ordinance requires council approval for taxicab fares. Carroll County Cab recently expanded their service into the city after the Westminster Taxi Service went out of business.
Other business related news included:
* Council approved a $60,000 building permit for the new Brass Hen Restaurant in Cranberry Mall. Located next to the movie theaters, the 857-square-foot facility will serve fried chicken.
* Approval was given for no stopping, standing or parking signs to be installed in front of the new Rinaldo's pizza parlor next to Fan's Restaurant on East Main Street.
Council members were concerned that citizens picking up carry-out orders might block traffic on that corner. They are considering prohibiting parking on the brick sidewalk in front of the building.
