Nominations for the 12th annual County Executive's Physical Fitness Awards are being sought by the Anne Arundel County Commission on Physical Fitness.

Several citizens are to be selected for their contributions to the advancement of fitness and health. The winners will be honored at the commission's awards banquet in March.

To be eligible for an award, a candidate must be a county resident who has contributed to the advancement of fitness and health in the following categories: health, wellness, youth sports, sports safety and physical fitness.

Recipients will be selected from nominations provided by county residents and received by Jan. 14. Those wishing to nominate candidates are asked to pick up nomination forms at county libraries or to call Bonnie Ulrich (757-5769).

The Physical Fitness Commission was established in 1979. Members are appointed by the governor to carry out activities designed to protect and improve the physical fitness of county citizens. More than 100 county residents have been selected for the annual awards since the commission's inception.

Other commission programs include an annual wheelchair tennis tournament and power-lifting and rowing competitions.

The commission also has spearheaded the effort to provide greater recognition for Anne Arundel County citizens who participated in the annual Maryland Senior Olympics.
