Mack, Hockaday lead Joppatowne to 70-61 victory

Kilo Mack scored a game-high 27 points and Kevin Hockaday added 18, as Joppatowne (2-0) defeated Wilde Lake (1-3), 70-61, in a non-league game last night at Joppatowne.

The Mariners led, 53-39, going into the fourth quarter and increased the margin to 65-44 with 4 minutes, 50 seconds remaining in the game.

With 4:22 left, the Mariners' Terrance Cain fouled Wilde Lake's Joe Guyton, who finished with a team-high 20 points. Guyton hit both ends of a one-and-one, and Wilde Lake rallied using a full-court press to pull within 67-54 with 2:35 remaining.

Hockaday was fouled by Wilde Lake's Phil Chenier at the 2:11 mark and hit both free throws to all but secure the victory for the Mariners. Wilde Lake tried some three-pointers in the last two minutes to try to tighten the gap.

"We just couldn't put the ball in the hole," said Wilde Lake head coach Paul Ellis.

Ellis also was concerned about his players' foul problems.

"We're reaching for the ball too much," the coach said.
