The Capitals used some flashy passing on breakaways, balanced scoring and outstanding goaltending by Mike Liut to deal the Flyers a 4-1 defeat at the Capital Centre.
Dino Ciccarelli led the Washington offense with a goal and an assist, as he continued to improve quickly after being out for 21 games with a broken thumb.
Mike Ridley, Alfie Turcotte and Dale Hunter also scored goals for the Capitals, and Mikhail Tatarinov had two assists.
Ciccarelli said: "It's been great to come back this quick and get into the flow of the offense. We stuck to our game plan tonight, didn't give up anything easy to the Flyers and took advantage of our chances."
The Capitals received superb goaltending by Liut and goals by Ridley, Turcotte and Hunter in the first two periods to take a 3-0 lead.
Liut was especially tough in the first period when the Flyers threatened time after time to break through for a goal.
Liut, returning after missing a week with a pulled groin, twice rejected high-percentage shots by Philadelphia right wing Rick Tocchet.
Liut also came out on top against the attacking Flyers on a couple of breakaway opportunities in the first period.
After the good start by Liut, Philadelphia became a little passive in the second period and the Capitals scored two goals to run their lead to 3-0.
Ridley had given Washington a 1-0 lead at 9 minutes, 43 seconds of the first period, as he took a pass at the right circle from Ciccarelli and skated in on Flyers goaltender Ron Hextall for the score.
Washington improved its lead to 2-0 at 3:36 of the second period on an unassisted goal by Turcotte on a breakaway.
The Capitals continued to pour it on at 17:18 of the second period, with Hunter scoring a power-play goal on a deflection off a shot by Tatarinov for a 3-0 lead.
