Edwin L. Beechey III Was insurance executive


Services for Edwin L. Beechey III, who had been an insurance company executive here in the 1960s and 1970s, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church in New Bern, N.C.

Mr. Beechey, who was 67 and lived in New Bern, died Saturday at a hospital there after a long illness.

A native of Clymer, Pa., he served as a bombardier and navigator in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II.

A 1950 graduate of Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa.,he helped to reactivate Alpha Chi Rho fraternity there, then earned a law degree at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.

He lived in the Reisterstown area while working in Baltimore managing a Travelers Cos. claims office that also served Washington. In 1985, he retired after more than five years at the company's headquarters in Hartford, Conn.

Mr. Beechey was an elder at Presbyterian churches.

He is survived by his wife, Elena D. Beechey; two daughters, Pamela Joyce Thompson of Pasadena and Deborah Jean Beechey of Baltimore; a sister, Joyce Shupper of West Orange, N.J.; and four grandchildren.
