NBA -- Announced that game suspended Wednesday night between Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks at Boston Garden will be resumed Dec. 23 at 1 p.m. with Boston leading, 37-22, and 10:30 remaining in the second quarter.

Minnesota Timberwolves -- Billy McKinney quit as director of player personnel.


Big East -- Announced it will continue to play its championship basketball tournament at Madison Square Garden in New York through 1996.

USA Basketball -- Named P.J. Carlesimo coach of the U.S. team for the 1991 World University Games.

Colgate -- Signed football coach Mike Foley to a multiyear contract.

Hobart -- Named Bill Maxwell, quarterbacks coach at Syracuse, head football coach.

Loyola -- F Patty Stoffey of Pottsville, Pa., and F Patteann Taylor of Mendham, N.J., signed letters of intent to play women's basketball.

Tennessee -- Starting DT Mark Moore, a senior, was dismissed from the football team for disciplinary reasons.


WLAF -- Announced George Shinn has acquired the ownership rights to the Raleigh-Durham franchise.

St. Louis Blues -- Called up RW David Bruce from Peoria (IHL).

Baltimore Skipjacks (AHL) -- Returned C Harry Mews to Hampton Roads Admirals (ECHL).

New Haven Nighthawks (AHL) -- Los Angeles affiliate fired coach Marcel Comeau. Garry Unger, assistant coach for Phoenix (IHL), will serve as interim coach.

Horse racing Philadelphia Park -- Announced the resignation of GM Robert L. Bork.


Santos -- Brazilian club agreed to terms with G Edinho, son of Pele, who played 17 years for the club.

Track and field The Athletics Congress -- Approved a world-record bettering throw of 75 feet, 10 1/4 inches by shot putter Randy Barnes in May as an American record. Awarded 1992 Youth Athletics Track and Field Championships to Auburn University.
