Lakers' Worthy linked to Oregon sex service

James Worthy's name appears on the log of a Portland, Ore., escort service linked to prostitution, Portland police said yesterday. But police said there never was any direct evidence that the Los Angeles Lakers forward solicited sex from any of the women who worked for the service. Worthy pleaded innocent Tuesday in Houston to charges that he solicited prostitution from two undercover police officers.

The detective who investigated the Portland case, Sgt. Rick Mosiman, said Worthy's name appeared on the Feb. 6 log seized in a raid on Allstar Models and Escorts. The service's operator, Valerie Ann Walton, 24, and her sister, Marla Walton, 22, later were convicted of promoting prostitution, Mosiman said.

Top-seeded South Africans Pieter Aldrich and Danie Visser, the reigning U.S. and Australian Open champions, defeated Australians Darren Cahill and Mark Kratzmann, 6-4, 6-2, and American Davis Cup stars Rick Leach and Jim Pugh beat French Open titlists Emilio Sanchez and Sergio Casal of Spain, 6-4, 6-2, in 65 minutes in the World Doubles Finals at Sanctuary Cove, Australia.

* Australia Davis Cup captain Neale Fraser named Pat Cash, Richard Fromberg, Darren Cahill and Wally Masur to face the United States in the finals Nov. 30-Dec. 2 in St. Petersburg, but declined to say who will face Alex Agassi and Michael Chang in singles or Rick Leach and Jim Pugh in doubles.
