An educator for the Baltimore school system is leaving her job to join the Baltimore County school system for a position as an assistant superintendent.
Jessie L. Douglas has been director of elementary education in the Baltimore school system since 1987. She will now be an assistant superintendent for the county's southwestern area.
Ms. Douglas was born in Turners Station in Dundalk. She received a bachelor's degree from Howard University in 1969 and a master's degree from Loyola College in 1972.
She began her teaching career in 1969 in the Washington public school system, where she was also a counselor and assistant principal. She began teaching in Baltimore in 1970.
Ms. Douglas replaces Evelyn Chatmon, who will become assistant superintendent for curriculum in the county school system. The announcement was made at the school board meeting last night.
