Husband and wife in Wicomico charged with child pornography

John and Linda Borelli of Fruitland were being held at the Wicomico County jail yesterday on charges of running a child pornography ring after police reportedly found more than 1,000 pictures and videotapes in their home.

Mr. Borelli, 37, and his wife, 28, were arrested at their trailer Tuesday.

Police reported finding more than 1,000 pictures and 14 videotapes, some showing children engaged in sexual acts.

The Borellis were being held in lieu of $100,000 bond each. Mr. Borelli faces a preliminary hearing in Wicomico Circuit Court on Oct. 18 on a previous charge of child abuse.

Two children thought to have been involved in the alleged pornography ring were turned over to child welfare workers, Davis Ruark, Wicomico County state's attorney, said yesterday. He would not give their ages or say whether they were related to the couple, but he said "they were close to the Borellis" and were under the age of 16.

The U.S. Postal Service alerted police after finding the Borellis' address on correspondence confiscated from a California man who was arrested on child pornography charges.

Mr. Borelli was charged with 18 offenses, and Mrs. Borelli was charged with 14. They are both charged with child pornography, filming children in a sexual act, perverted sexual practices, second- and third-degree sex offenses with an underage victim and child abuse, said Maj. Kirk Daugherty of the county Sheriff's Department.

Mr. Borelli was also charged with second-degree rape of an underage victim, sodomy and incest with a minor, he said.
