Teacher consultant hired

An association of retired executives has brought a consultant to Baltimore to help develop a three-year program aimed at improving the hiring and retaining of teachers in the city.

Edwin C. Brewin, who has been working as a consultant in the New York public school system, begins work tomorrow on putting together a new recruitment plan, to be ready by next year, according to an announcement by the school system.

The Baltimore schools have long been plagued by difficulties in finding and holding on to teachers. When periodic teacher shortagesarise, they always hit the city the hardest.

Dr. Brewin was himself recruited to Baltimore by the Society of Executive Retired Volunteers, which is headed by Robert Bonnell.
