BOONSBORO — — Hikers on the Appalachian Trail are getting some company from ultramarathon runners.
The famous footpath provides part of the route for Saturday's JFK 50-Mile race.
The nearly 1,000 participants are also running through a section of the Chesapeake and Ohio National Historical Park as they make their way from Boonsboro to the finish line in Williamsport.
This is the 49th annual running of the event. It honors President John F. Kennedy and his push for physical fitness.
