Columbia car crash kills teen-aged driver

A single-car accident early Thursday has claimed the life of a Columbia teen-aged driver and seriously injured three passengers in the car.

Shaquan Jamal Curtis, 17, of the 5300 block of Harpers Farm Road died in the 3:05 a.m. accident. Police said he lost control of the Audi sedan, left Columbia Road near Tarkington Place and struck a tree. Excessive speed caused the collision that closed Columbia Road for three hours. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor, police said.

Three passengers in the vehicle were taken by ambulance or Medivac to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, all in serious condition, police said. They are Obafami Oyeniyi Ilupeju, 21, and Tres Quante Jones and Dontrell Milner, who are both 20-years-old. Police have yet to disclose the addresses of the three.

As of Sunday night, Ilupeju was in critical but stable condition, and both Jones and Milner had been discharged from the hospital.
