Annapolis man hospitalized after crash, charged with car theft

An Annapolis man who police said was fleeing with a stolen vehicle was involved in a three-car pile-up Sunday that landed him first in the hospital and then in jail.

Police said Curtis Proctor Jr., 26, lost control and overturned the Hyundai Sonata on Spa Road near the Westgate Circle roundabout shortly after 7 p.m. The vehicle landed on the trunk of a Lincoln Town Car and pushed it into another vehicle.

The injured Proctor was trapped inside and had to be extricated by fire crews. He was taken to Anne Arundel Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. During the accident and rescue, the owner of the Hyundai reported it stolen. Proctor was charged with auto theft. He left the hospital for the Jennifer Road Detention Center, where he remains on $40,000 bond.
