Bowie, Chung and Rodricks are honored

Sun columnist Dan Rodricks, reporter Liz Bowie and photographer Andre F. Chung have been selected as winners of the 2006 Excellence in Urban Journalism Award for their work.

The award - presented last week at the Enterprise Network Conference in Los Angeles - is sponsored by Enterprise and the Freedom Forum to recognize outstanding journalism in issues affecting the nation's urban areas.

Rodricks was honored for his series of columns focused on assisting Baltimore's ex-offenders by getting drug dealers off of the streets and finding work for them.Bowie and Chung produced the four-part "On Their Own" series last year exploring the lives of a pair of homeless teen-agers in the city

In addition to The Sun, WFPL radio in Louisville, Ky., was honored for its examination of housing desegregation in that city.
