On Saturday, despite the shutdown of the federal government, family members of fallen firefighters were able to visit the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Emmitsburg. The shutdown closed the National Emergency Training Center, which forced the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation to move events to other facilities in Emmitsburg.

The shutdown meant the memorial on the NETC campus was off limits, but the foundation worked with FEMA and the U.S. States Fire Administration to gain access for the families coming in from all over the country.
