One of the ways they accomplish this is by choosing and implementing a Community Improvement Project every couple of years. And so the Weekend Tummy Tamers project was conceived. Children of families with need-based income received breakfast and lunch while at school but what happened on the weekends? Last school year, the club provided 20 bags of food each weekend to those select children of need at a local Laurel school. The food was bought with funds raised by the WCL as well as donations from the city of Laurel, Sandy Spring Bank, Olive on Main restaurant, McGowan and Cecil LLC, First United Methodist Church, Church of the Nazarene and many individual donations from club members and their families and neighbors and from the Laurel community. During holidays and vacation days, grocery store gift cards were supplied to the families. Feedback from the families was that of gratitude.
