Teachers and students get ready for school [West Laurel}

It is interesting how a date such as Sept. 6 can mean so many different things to different people. After all, that is the day that school begins in Prince George's County. Teachers are coming back to classrooms after a much needed break. It's back to business now! Students are excited with great anticipation of seeing their friends and learning who is in their classroom. New school supplies, new outfits, new experiences to be had. What about the parents? It's back to a schedule. It's back to getting up early and doing homework. It's also time to hand the kids over to the teachers, the principal, the cafeteria ladies and the whole entire school staff. Maybe it's a bit of a relief. Whatever it is, there is no denying that our lazy hazy days of summer are over. It's time to get in the groove of cooler temperatures and maybe some football. I'm a Redskin fan. There I said it.

Bond Mill Elementary starts the school year off right with an Ice Cream Social. Back-to-School nights for just parents are scheduled for kindergarten, first and second grades from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 13. Back-to-School night for third, fourth and fifth grades are from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sept. 14. Principal Justin FitzGerald will welcome parents back to school and give them all the important updates. Parents can meet the teachers and visit the classrooms. Teachers have a lot of important information to share for the coming months ahead.
