I was not made for all this frigid, windy, icy and snowy weather; I want my flip flops back sooner rather than later! On such blustery days, our good neighbor, Herbie Frye, has come out with his snow blower and cleared the snow from the elderly neighbors' driveways and walkways. We have had the best plowed street in West Laurel thanks to Herbie and his snow plow.
Prince George's County residents are asked to park on the even-numbered side of residential streets or in their driveways to help the road crews in clearing the streets. Residents are also asked to shovel the sidewalks near their property. To see where the snow plows are in real time during winter weather, go to 38.70.2.219/snowplow/ for Prince George's County or montgomerycountymd.gov/snowmap/ .
Thank you to Herbie for making life a lot better on our street. If there are any snow rescuers on your street that you would like to thank, such as caring, strong teenagers or a neighbor that helps to shovel you out, email me and let me know, so you can thank him or her as well.
The West Laurel Recreation Council has been a wonderful organization for many years in our community. It is responsible for so many events that have brought us all together as a community. It's in a bit of a crisis right now though, because it is in desperate need of volunteers to take over the reins. Your help could make a big difference. The Spring Egg Hunt, which has been a West Laurel tradition for 30 years, will have to be canceled on March 28 if volunteers do not step forward to orchestrate it. The West Laurel Recreation Council meets every fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the West Laurel Community Building. Announcements are posted on Yahoo Groups, groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/west_laurel/info. :If you would like to know more about the council and how you can help, e-mail RWKester@aol.com or brightbaskets@yahoo.com.
Join West Laurel resident Mary Lehman, our county councilwoman, for coffee at Panera at the Towne Centre at Laurel on Friday, Feb. 27 from 8 to 10 am. Share your concerns with her and let her update you on what's going on in the area that affects you.
