Be on the lookout in your mailboxes for the West Laurel Civic Association's Winter Hotline. Everything you want to know about what's going on in our community can be found in our own newsletter. The Hotline will give you a preview of the West Laurel Civic Association Winter General Meeting scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m. at the West Laurel Recreation Building (intersection of Bond Mill and Brooklyn Bridge roads). President Barbara Sollner-Webb has lined up experts from the State's Attorney General's office and from the Prince George's County Police Department who will give a tag-team presentation on safety and security in this digital age for everyone with a telephone and a computer. All West Laurel residents are encouraged to attend. It's a good opportunity to meet new people and share information.

Neighbors, be watchful. There have been some robberies here in West Laurel. I know, because my family fell victim to one in November. No one was hurt, thank goodness. But it never hurts to remind everyone that despite our low crime rate here, there are people who would like to take advantage of that.
On a good note, as we head into February, our daylight will last a little longer and spring gets just that much closer. I am a great fan of the warmer and drier weather. In the meantime, watch the ice, especially the black ice. It can be a humdinger. Trust me, I know.
