'Home Again' exhibit mixes old, new [Montpelier/South Laurel]

The Montpelier Arts Center will be the site of a thought-provoking new exhibit, "Home, Again," from Sept. 9 to Oct. 30. This exhibit will focus on the themes of innovation, reinvention and transformation.

Our community grows and changes along with the times. New buildings and houses appear where there once were woods. Many residents tend to be transient due to military and/or government changes of duty stations. When we observe these changes, we may begin to think about what it means to call a place "home." Those of us who have lived here for decades, for example, remember when the open shopping center was the only one. Then the Laurel Mall came and went. Now we have Town Center at Laurel. Schools have grown in size, and "temporary" additions became permanent. Nostalgia for the old mixes with excitement for the new. This exhibit will focus on that mix and get us thinking.
