Find treasures at Cherry View yard sale

Cherry View Park, a 50+ community of single-story townhouses, is hosting a community yard sale on Saturday, April 28, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be multiple sources of interesting items to choose from. Individual outdoor tables are available for each residential unit. In addition, baked goods and beverages will be served inside the Community Center. Cherry View Park is at 9282 Cherry Lane, next to the day care center, at the intersection with Route 197. The rain date for the yard sale is May 5.

Celebrate "Gifts and Spirits with the Chesapeake Woodturners" at Montpelier Mansion on Saturday, April 21, from 4 to 6 p.m. Practice using a lathe under the guidance of an experienced woodturner, view the woodturner exhibit and tour the mansion. Tavern games will be played and adult beverages are available. Costs for participation are $26 for residents and $30 for non-residents. Attendees must be 21 years of age of older. They say that spring is just around the corner – we can hope. On Saturday, April 28, welcome in the season at the 22nd Annual Festival of Herbs, Tea and the Arts on the mansion grounds and at the Arts Center. Enjoy the flavors and fragrances of the herbs and plants available for purchase. Other features include arts and crafts, live music and tea and scones in the mansion's East Wing. There will be food vendors, as well as demonstrations and open studios, at the Arts Center. The festival is free. Several opportunities for family fun and learning are scheduled at the Patuxent Research Refuge in May. On Friday, May 4, all ages are welcome to Star Watch and Stories, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. See if you can find a bear, crab or lion in the sky. Discover constellations and learn how animals use the stars, and ways we can protect animals at night. On Saturday, May 19, and Saturday, May 26, take part in the Photo Adventure Scavenger Hunts. Use clues to hunt for sculptured stones, animals and plants. Cameras and/or cell phones are needed. Different tours take place at differing locations at the refuge. Do you love to crochet? All Shades of Pink is sponsoring crocheting comfort blankets for breast cancer patients. Materials will be provided, but knowledge of how to crochet is needed. These blankets will be symbols of love and comfort during this difficult time in the breast cancer patient's life. Groups meet at the Laurel/Beltsville Senior Activity center on April 24, and May 8 and 22, from 10 a.m. to noon. Participation is free. While at the center take a walk down the Avenue of the Arts to view the current exhibit "Photos and Pastels" by John Potts. The exhibit can be viewed through June 1.
