Laurel residents are urged to prepare for severe weather on Saturday as the National Weather Service is predicting heavy rainfall and potential severe thunderstorms for the entire National Capital Region during the day.
The storms may include an inch or more of rain, severe winds and damaging hail with the potential to produce localized tornadoes.
Flash flood warnings are anticipated, along with potential river and lowland flooding due to already increased water levels. There is also an increased threat of tree collapse and major debris as a result of ground saturation and severe winds.
