Laurel events help mark anniversary of 9/11

Two events are planned in Laurel to commemorate the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and remember those who died that day.

American Legion Post 60, 2 Main St. will hold a remembrance ceremony Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. The ceremony will include a special vigil to honor all who perished at the World Trade Center and the police, fire and rescue units who worked so selflessly during and after the attack. The city of Laurel will hold its annual National Preparedness event on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 6 p.m. at the Laurel Municipal Center, 8103 Sandy Spring Road. The event is an evening of preparedness and remembrance, sponsored by Mayor Craig Moe, Laurel Emergency Services Director Martin Flemion and the Laurel Board of Trade.

Laurel first responders; Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT; Laurel Citizens Police Academy Alumni groups; and Board of Trade businesses will have preparedness/safety information and displays. Presentations will be offered on emergency preparedness for residents and businesses, and using social media in an emergency.
