Some Laurel residents evacuated after shots fired on Eighth Street

Laurel police are on the scene of an apparent barricade in the 900 block of Eighth Street near Montrose Avenue, after shots were reported fired there around 8:15 p.m. tonight, according to city spokeswoman Audrey Barnes.

The alleged shooter barricaded himself in an apartment, according to Barnes, and some residents were evacuated. Barnes reported there were no injuries.

The 700, 800 and 900 blocks of Eighth Street are closed, as well as Montrose Avenue between Seventh Street and Harrison Street.

Laurel police have opened Partnership Hall as a temporary shelter for displaced residents.
