Segway rides and a close look at a mobile forensics lab are some of the entertainment planned for a community block party the Laurel police are throwing Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m.

The party, in the 500 block of Montgomery Street, is part of the community outreach efforts at the core of the Laurel Police Chief's Citizen Advisory Committee, a group of volunteer city residents and business owners who serve by appointment of Police Chief Richard McLaughlin.

"The citizens need to be involved in the Police Department and the Police Department needs to be involved in the community," McLaughlin said when the committee was organized in 2012.

The party also includes games, food and demonstrations by an emergency response team, as well as a chance to speak directly with members of the Laurel Police Department.
