City residents can clear electronic and paper clutter [Old Town Laurel]

Spring officially arrived more than a few weeks ago. Even then it felt like winter was still holding its chilly grip on the thermometer, as temperatures failed to rise. Fast forward just a few weeks and we are finally seeing sunnier days and fairer weather.

You may have begun to make lists of things to accomplish in and around your home as daylight lingers a little longer as each evening passes. If you are working on spring cleaning, and find yourself in need of help disposing of certain electronic items, or an amassed load of paperwork no longer important to you, then the timing is right to participate in the city of Laurel's Electronic Recycling and Paper Shredding event slated for Saturday, April 18, 8 a.m. until noon, at the Department of Public Works facility at 305-307 First St.

Tethered bicycles are quickly grabbed and taken. Vehicles get rifled through, or worse, stolen. The more brazen of thieves will enter homes, in some cases even when the homeowner is there, quickly taking whatever valuables are in sight.

A number of Old Town residents have made reports of those who come dressed in what appears to be a company uniform, demanding overdue payment from a utility provider. Legitimate, local service entities, including BGE and Verizon, do not conduct business in that manner.Be vigilant. That which is taken in an instant can be gone for a lifetime.

It is with great sadness that my family and I mark the passing of another sibling. My brother, Thomas Nelson Dudley, died suddenly in the early morning hours of March 25, 2015.He had just marked his 63rd birthday a few weeks before his passing.

Duke, as he was familiarly known to most, had, until moving to Westminster several years ago, lived in and around Laurel his entire life. He was in every sense of the word, a real character. It seems as one grows older we attend more funerals than weddings. It is, I suppose, simply the rhythm of life.
