The traditional start to summer, Memorial Day weekend, found many people enjoying the bright sunshine and soft breezes. People worked in their yards planting brightly colored flowers and many ventured down to the West Arundel Swim Club to catch up with old friends and make summer plans.

This year's West Arundel Swim Club social chairperson, Jenny Webb, invites all neighbors to visit the club as it hosts its annual spaghetti dinner on Saturday, June 20 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.The feast is always delicious and the price is outstanding.It's a great way to start celebrating Father's Day as the dads love it!The club also hosts an adults-only night on Saturday, June 27 from 7 to 10 p.m., featuring Red, Hot and Blue on the dinner menu.
Members may bring guests from the community for these events.Purchase tickets in advance by seeing the gate attendant during pool hours.Watch for more information on all events posted at the pool.If you have not joined the pool yet, contact Flo at 301-725-5644 for information about membership.The summer will get hot and the pool is always a cool place to be.
Check out this year's area swim team in action as the West Arundel Aqua-Ducks take on the Roger Carter Seals from Howard County in their first meet of the season on Saturday, June 20 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. All neighbors are invited to swing by the pool and check out the action. The team includes approximately 100 swimmers, ranging in age from 4- to 18-years-old and spanning all ability levels from novice to college swimmers. The Ducks go on the road for the second meet of the season against Cheverly Swim and Racquet Club on Saturday, June 27 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.Go Aqua-Ducks!
When the great outdoors just do not want to cooperate, be prepared with a spellbinding book to cozy up with and enjoy for the day.Our great Maryland City at Russett library provides us all with plenty of interesting adventures via books during the year.Pick up a few to fill your time indoors or outdoors for this summer.Summer reading registration has already begun for the youth (kindergarten-12th-grade) and the annual summer reading kickoff is Tuesday, June 23 from 2 to 7 p.m.The summer reading program provides lots of cool ideas and coupons for the kids to use throughout the summer.Don't be afraid to join the kids in the fun and set a great example of how reading is a lifetime skill used for enjoyment as well.Also join the library for Family Storytime on Thursday, July 2 at 7 p.m.for families with children ages birth to 8-years-old.You can mark your calendar for future Family Storytimes as well. They always occur on the first Thursday of every month at 7 p.m.
Finally, mark your calendar now for the Community United Methodist Church yard sale on Saturday, July 11 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and tell all of your friends and neighbors to join you.Reservations for a slot or more information can be obtained by calling 301-725-4918 or going to cumcmdcity.com and completing a registration form.There are early registration discounts available through June 26.Cost of one space is $20 and $25 for two unless paid before June 26 — early reservations are $15 per space, or $5 off. Tables are $10 each.Community United is located at 300 Brock Bridge Road.
