Two from MCRC recognized by Anne Arundel County [Maryland City]

A special congratulations go out to two individuals associated with the Maryland City Recreation Council.

Secretary Kate Johnson received Anne Arundel County Recreation and Parks Ron Blake Outstanding Volunteer award. The award recognizes the achievements and service of volunteers who support the Anne Arundel Department of Recreation and Parks. Throughout the year, Kate meets with Recreation and Parks employees, walking the fields to ensure the safety of the area. She also meets with them regarding water tests and field maintenance issues.

Kate spends countless hours helping to maintain the equipment and fields for the Maryland City Recreation Council soccer and baseball programs, spending hours each week helping to line the fields, move equipment and keep the fields and facilities in the best shape possible. Before the beginning of the season and at the end of each season, she can be found hanging up and taking down the soccer nets and moving the large goals for safe storage during the off season.

Thanks to Kate, MCRC has a strong relationship with the county Department of Recreation and Parks. Thank you, Kate, for volunteering your time and effort!

Congratulations also go out to my daughter, Kellianne Venit, who was awarded an Anne Arundel Youth Soccer Association scholarship last week. Kellianne has played soccer, baseball and basketball through MCRC for the past 13 years. She also worked as an in-house soccer referee and assistant soccer coach and currently is the head coach for the girl's U9 travel soccer team. Anne Arundel Department of Recreation and Parks Director Rick Anthony and AAYSA President Jim Cronin presented Kellianne with the scholarship check during the recent AAYSA meeting. Kellianne continues her studies next year at the University of South Carolina.
