The current train station is an historic and economic anchor to Old Town and especially Main Street. This proposal is an economic threat. For example the current MARC parking lot, which, I would point out is owned by the state, i.e. you and me, the taxpayers, becomes a lot less desirable to develop. Additional focus on the new station area will also mean Main Street businesses can be shut out by new development and more distance from the train.Given the amount of economic support the track folks already get from the state — more than $93 million to Pimlico, Laurel and Timonium — maybe priority should be given to the economic needs of local communities, and the need to preserve this lovely, historic, station as an operating entity.
