A Washington man was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for traveling across state lines to have sex with a 14-year-old Laurel girl, Laurel spokeswoman Audrey Barnes announced last week.
Laurel police detectives said Gregory King, 28, met the girl online in October 2013, and the two exchanged sexually explicit photos on a social networking site. King arrived in Laurel a month later, Barnes said, and engaged in sex acts with the girl during an overnight stay while her parents were away.
Laurel police initiated an investigation in November 2013, and the FBI was brought in to assist.
King was arrested and charged in January and pleaded guilty in July. On Nov. 21, King was sentenced to 10 years in prison with an additional 10 years of probation, according to Barnes.
The case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a Department of Justice initiative to combat child sexual exploitation and abuse. Barnes said U.S. Attorney Rod Rosenstein commended the FBI and Laurel Police Department for their work in the investigation.
