As part of the ongoing construction of the Intercounty Connector near Laurel, eastbound traffic on Route 198 from West Laurel and Burtonsville will be shifted to a new ramp for access to southbound Interstate 95 beginning Sunday, State Highway Administration officials announced Friday.

Traffic from east and westbound Route 198 will now merge before entering southbound I-95, but the through travel lanes of I-95 will not be affected, SHA officials said.

The traffic shift is required because of construction of new ICC collector-distributor lanes. SHA officials said the ICC section between I-95 and Route 1 is expected to open next spring.
