Soroptimist International of Howard County will host a fall meeting of South Atlantic Region Soroptimists, Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Sheraton Hotel, in Columbia. Clubs from Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia will be in attendance, and members will receive updates on national programs, attend regional workshops and share program ideas.
Featured speaker will be Rick Santos, President/CEO of IMA World Health, which sponsors many programs in developing countries. Santos will provide information on the impact of the Soroptimist partnership to improve the health of women and girls in their varied programs. The Howard County Soroptimists have coordinated international health projects for the South Atlantic Region clubs with IMA for 19 years.
Soroptimists have been actively involved in the Safe Motherhood Kit program, which provide supplies for a sterile birth for women in Haiti, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, who do not have access to medical care. Their Soroptimist Village Dispensary Kit program provides essential non-prescription items for rural health clinics.
