A barricade situation in Laurel that began Saturday night after witnesses told police shots were fired ended early Sunday without incident, Laurel city spokeswoman Audrey Barnes said.
There were no injuries reported.
Shots were reported fired in the 900 block of Eighth Street around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, Barnes said, apparently after a fight broke out involving about 10 people during a large party in an apartment. Two men barricaded themselves in the apartment, and nearby residents were evacuated to a shelter set up at Partnership Hall at the Laurel Police Department.
Police made contact with a 28-year-old man and another man, possibly his grandfather, who refused to come out of the apartment. The city's SWAT team and negotiators were called to assist and the two men eventually surrendered early Sunday morning after a five-hour standoff, Barnes said.
After questioning, the two men were released. No charges have been filed, according to Barnes.
