Laurel police arrested a Nevada man Friday in connection with a drug investigation that resulted in the recovery of more than a half-million-dollars' worth of marijuana, police said.
Victor Camarillo, 30, of Henderson, Nev., was charged with intent to distribute, possession of a large amount of marijuana and importing a controlled dangerous substance into the state, according to police. Other charges are pending, police said, and the Baltimore office of the Drug Enforcement Agency has been notified.
According to police, members of the Laurel Police Department Drug Interdiction Task Force identified suspicious activity in and around the parking lot of the Holiday Inn Express in the 14400 block of Laurel Place. A canine scan detected the presence of drugs and possible narcotics, police said.
Officers were able to identify and locate a suspect, who was detained for questioning, police said. A hotel room was sealed and several vehicles were impounded, pending search and seizure warrants, police said.
In the resulting search, police found 180 pounds of marijuana wrapped in individual one-pound packages, with a street value of approximately $540,000, according to police.
