Come meet your neighbors at Savage Tree Lighting [North Laurel/Savage]

The Savage Tree Lighting event is only a few weeks away, at 5 p.m., on Saturday, Dec. 6. Afterwards, there will be a reception in Carroll Baldwin Hall. Come out and meet your neighbors at this fun annual event.

This year, Carroll Baldwin Hall will have Cat's Meow figurines to sell. They will be wooden replicas of the hall and cost $20 each. These are limited addition and so get them before they are gone. All proceeds will go to the restoration of the hall. For more information call Louise Thornton at 301-498-0934.

Patuxent Valley Middle School is holding several Parent Empowerment Academy sessions over the school year. The first was Nov. 6. If you missed it and would like to be part of this program, you can find out ways to help your children with their homework, to keep them motivated, keep up with school events and what support programs exist for you and your children. The next session will be Jan. 28. To find out more about this program, contact Marcus Nicks at marcus_nicks@hcpps.org.

The Diamond Scholars from Hammond High are hosting their annual Indoor Flea Market on Dec. 13. There will be a variety of vendors selling all sorts of items for your gift-giving needs. Tables can be rented based on size from $15 to $45. Shoppers make sure you mark your calendar for this event. For more information contact, raymona_reid@hcpss.org.

Every year, Patuxent Valley Middle School collects pull tabs to donate to the Ronald McDonald program in Philadelphia. The money raised by collecting these tabs helps reduce the cost so that family can stay near their children when facing serious health issues.

Can you collect tabs at your work? At home? If so, start collecting off soda cans, pet food, soup or any other can and take them into Patuxent Valley. How great if the entire community joined in their effort. This is a no cost way to make a difference.

I hope all my readers have a very special Thanksgiving and take the time to give thanks for all we have.
