Girl Scouts from six troops advance in rank [North Laurel/Savage]

Girl Scout Cluster 58 held the Bridging Ceremony last week and about 45 girls moved up in the ranks of Scouting. Six troops met at Forest Ridge to hold the bridging that included Daisies, the youngest Scouts becoming Brownies up to Seniors becoming Ambassadors. Congratulations to all the girls!

Do not forget the North Laurel Community Fair on June 14 at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center. Over 30 county, state and nonprofit organizations will be attending this event, providing information about home ownership, building your credit, immigration, services for seniors and children, as well as free food and health screenings.

There will be activities for the kids, live music and much more. The event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Gorman Crossing celebrated the month of March by holding a read-a-thon. During that month they not only read for 39,988 minutes but they helped raise $2,394 to support PTA activities for the school. Great way to help the school and the students.

Congratulations to Reservoir High School's Cody Morris, who was selected as Gatorade Maryland State Baseball Player of the Year. What an honor for the junior after an amazing year.

The Howard County Library System is kicking off the summer reading programs and even though our local library is under construction, the kids can still sign up at the Express Savage Library. It is located in the shopping center at the intersection of Route 1 and Gorman Road. The hours are Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 9 pm., and Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Reservoir Highj is offering a large variety of summer camps. This year along with their sports camps, they will also have art, forensic science and drama camps. Terrapin Adventures has fun for all ages. It will be adding a rope's course for kids, 5 to 9 years of age. This will add a chance for the younger children to join in on family fun. It will also be great for birthday parties. How fun for everyone to enjoy an adventures of zip lining, a giant swing and a climbing tower.

The 50+ Center will hold its Spring Art Workshop on June 20. This month's activity will be making bracelets, starting at 9:45 a.m. The cost is $7, which includes all materials. Registration is required at 410-313-3880.
