Challenges of city life a topic at Emmanuel UM [North Laurel/Savage]

Emmanuel United Methodist Church is having a presentation on June 14 called Stories from a Baltimore Classroom. There will be a teacher from a high school that was involved in the riots and a director of a child development center in the heart of Baltimore.

They will talk about the challenges children face growing up in the city. There will also be a question-and-answer session following the presentation. Reservoir High School has another first. Congratulations to sophomore Haley Tiller and senior Anna Janush for being named to the second team all-county Howard County Girls Lacrosse Team.

The students are voted on by the coaches all over the county. This is the first year the girls have had two girls selected. Haley was the top goal scorer with 33 goals. Wow, and she is only a sophomore. Anna was the top assist maker with 37 assists. Both students are also honor roll students.

Hammond Elementary School held its fifth grade Simulated Congressional Hearing on June 10. Way to go Fifth graders. You could teach our community a lot about the Constitution.

There will be no meeting of the Savage Historical Society in June.

Have you signed up now for Donuts with Dad on June 20 at the North Laurel Community Center yet? Come for doughnuts and light refreshments while enjoying the day with your Dad. Festivities will start at 9:30 a.m. and you must register for this event by calling 410-313-0455, dropping by or by going online to RP4404.301

There are still a few events left this month at the 50+ Center. On June 17 at 11 a.m. is a Father's Day Chicken and Fish Fry. Cost is $3 plus a lunch contribution.

Ballroom and Latin Dance class is June 30 till Aug. 4 at 1:30 p.m. Cost is $52 for six classes. There is also a Women's Social Group that will meet on the first and third Tuesdays on each month starting in June.

Do not forget the Community Fair sponsored by the Multiservice Center at the Whiskey Bottom Shopping Center on June 13. It will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come out for free food, screenings, a moonbounce, games and to learn what services are available for you.
