Two information nights cover kindergarten and college [North Laurel/Savage]

If you have a child that is kindergarten bound or college bound, there is an information night for you.

The Road to Kindergarten will held at Hammond Middle School on Feb. 9 starting at 6:30 p.m. Learn what expectations the school system has, what the kindergarten program is all about and what resources are available to you and your future student.

There will also be an explanation of the registration process. Child care will be available for children over 2. The school is at 8110 Aladdin Drive in Laurel. Registration will begin throughout the county the week of March 2 through 6 for students who will turn 5 by Sept. 1. Pre-K registration will begin on March 2. Pre-K will be offered for students who are income eligible, who will turn 4 by Sept. 1.

Meanwhile, Reservoir High School will have college information night on Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. The night will provide an overview and then break up into three 25-minute sessions.

You can choose which of the following you want to attend; Navigating the College Search Process, Understanding Financial Aid, Completing a College Application, NCAA Eligibility and Recruiting, the Benefits of Attending a two-year college and Standardized Testing, PSAT, SAT and ACT. This program is great for parents of and students in grades nine through 11.

Save the date of March 13 for the annual Gator Gala to support the Reservoir High Boosters. This year's event will be held at the Gathering Place in Clarksville.

Or save March 13 for the Golden Bears O'Gala to support the Hammond High Boosters. The gala will be held at the Savage Mill.

The Patuxent Middle Wellness Center is open during school hours on Wednesdays and Fridays. It is similar to a doctor's office onsite and is open for any student at the school. To make an appointment, call 301-490-1655.

Hammond Elementary School will host a Spring Fun Run on April 25. There will be a 5K and 1 mile course to choose between. I will keep you up to date when registration begins.

Bollman Bridge Elementary School will hold its annual International Night on March 19 starting at 6 p.m. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the many cultures in our community.

Sad news for the Hammond Elementary community. Judith Bland, who for 15 years was the principal at Hammond Elementary, has passed away after complications with an illness. She retired in 2013, but served Howard County for many years.
